| In
foundry work, the terms Cope and Drag refer to the
upper and lower parts of a two part casting flask used in
sand casting. The flask is a wood
or metal frame, which contains the molding
sand, providing support to
the sand as the metal is poured into the mold. Through
my own foundry experience, I learned to grasp a new way of seeing art. It became
more tangible and dimensional. Most visions for sculpture have to be in place
before any materials enter the picture, more so than the art of painting. From
this training, I developed skills and ideas that connected me back to my passion
for painting. I decided the experience was worthy of a title, and it became the
distinctive name of Copendrag.
